Shawn and I decided to start this travel blog in hopes of helping families in realizing that you can still enjoy travelling, regardless of your disability. It does take a lot more planning and there are many places that just aren’t accessible, there is still many options out there. We are definitely not world travellers but we do take 2+ vacations a year. Just a little background on who we are… Shawn suffered a severe brain injury in a motor vehicle accident in 2008. His injuries not only left him with physical injuries but cognitive ones as well. Due to his hemiplegia (left-side paralysis), he is a full-time power chair user and requires assistance with all transfers and activities of daily living. Most of the time we do travel with an attendant so that we can enjoy our vacation as a married couple and not as caregiver/patient. Most of the travel blogs I read about accessibility were written from the point of the person with the disability. Shawn will definitely have a lot of input into the blog but due to cognitive reasons I will be writing it from my point of view, with his help. Please enjoy and I will do my best to be as informative as possible!
